Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran was a businesswoman, investor and speaker from the United States. The Corcoran Group, an NYC real estate brokerage was started by Corcoran. NRT bought it in 2001 for $66 million. Corcoran then exited the business. Corcoran has been a part of 12 of ABC's Shark Tank seasons. She has participated in 53 deals as of February 2020. The most significant was a $350,000 purchase to pay for 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran is the second of 10 children from a working-class Irish-Catholic family was born in Edgewater in New Jersey. Florence Corcoran was Florence's mother and a homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He was a mover from one job to another throughout Corcoran's early years. The family depended on food delivery services for free from the local grocer. Corcoran remembers her fatheras one who would drink excessively, and treated her mother in a manner that was disrespectful and condescendingly, particularly after he'd consumed several drinks. Corcoran was a troubled student throughout school. Later, she discovered she had dyslexia. Corcoran attended a Catholic elementary and then started high school in Englewood at St. Cecilia High School. Corcoran dropped several classes during her first year before transferring to Leonia High School where she was a D student.
